The Fear That Did Not Hurt began as a dream-fragment written long before The Vanishing Ground took shape as a novel.

Over time, many of its emotional and symbolic elements evolved into the larger story. Rather than leaving the earlier draft online in full, I chose to let the novel become the definitive version of that journey.
